For the 200th anniversary of the poet’s birth
Petőfi got started on his dramatic work about General Antonio Caraffa, the butcher of the Eperjes jurisdiction, in July 1849, mere weeks before his death. He only managed about 15 pages, then came the well-known stroke of fate. This play created for Pannon Showplace Theatre’s Karaffa playwrights’ competition is first and foremost a comedy against all its horrible historical context. Situational comedy, misunderstandings and silliness, fear and patriotism, mistakenly exchanged letters, honesty and lies at the end of which the poet serves historical justice for the bloody handed executioner of the 17th century.
This production is part of the "Karaffa playwrights' competition and presentation of the prize-winning works" project, which received a 12.000.000 HUF funding from Veszprém-Balaton 2023 Plc.
